Water-based barrier offers longer life

28 September 2010

Mica’s R-2462 coating is said to provide oxygen barrier properties on films and papers that will extend the shelf life of products and contribute to source reduction. The coating is suitable for food packaging applications.

Oxygen barrier properties of less than 1cc/100²inch/day can be achieved on BOPP film. On paper, R-2462 has been shown to be a barrier to some greases and oils.

Pre-priming the film with Mica’s A-131-X is said to provide optimal uniformity and adhesion properties; and, as R-2462 achieves a good oxygen barrier with a relatively thin coating, converters are able to reduce costs and improve the environment, says Mica.
