Two major UK converters - Roberts Mart & Co and Skymark Packaging - have recently chosen to invest in flexo presses from German manufacturer Fischer & Krecke, now part of the Bobst Group. All the machines were purchase through F&K’s UK agent, Edlon Machinery
Leeds based Roberts Mart, a privately owned specialist in high quality flexo printing and converting of flexible films, with its own, blown film extrusion business, Romar Packaging, has opted for an 8-colour, 1,300mm web width F&K model FP – 14S flexo press incorporating the smartGPS System (Graphic Positioning System). The press was supplied together with a special plate mounting machine as part of £2 million investment that also included a new Titan ER610 slitter rewinder.
The smartGPS technology is designed to reduce the risk of ‘over-impression’ and job data is stored on the actual sleeve during plate mounting. Set-up times are said to be vastly reduced, together with significant savings in waste and energy.
The new press is a fully gearless machine with direct drive to the CI cylinder and uses sleeve technology for both printing plates and anilox. It incorporates a new ‘retractable’ inter-colour dryer design for maximum accessibility and an advanced operator control system. It joins three existing flexo machines at Roberts Mart.
As part of the first stage of its major investment programme at its Scunthorpe site, Skymark chose to install an F&K 10-colour, 1,300mm web width model FP-16S gearless press, together with an FP-14S 8-colour machine of 1,500mm. Both machines also have the smartGPS system.
