This year’s Lions’ Lair competition at the Packaging Innovations London show will see exhibitors pitching their most pioneering products – including a bottle made of cardboard, a new business service, micro-LED packaging and a paper cushioning system – to a panel of “fierce” packaging experts.
Lions’ Lair will take place from 13:30 in the Keynote Theatre at the Business Design Centre London, on Wednesday 2 October 2013, the second day of the annual show.
This year the Lions’ Lair judging panel includes: Paul Day, packaging technologist at Neal’s Yard Remedies; Josh Brooks, brand director at Packaging News; Robert Opie, founder & curator at the Museum of Brands; and Tom Keeling, lead designer at Manchester United Football Club.
Hoping to impress the judges will be DAPY Paris (stand E9), with its luxury box packaging made for Dom Pérignon: the lighted pulsar box containing 1280 micro-LEDs illuminates the brand for display purposes.
Long-life carton manufacturer SIG Combibloc (stand VG8) will be “stepping into the ring” with the first ever bottle made of cardboard: its new innovation Combidome combines “the best features of a bottle, but with all the benefits of a carton pack”.
Design Activity (stand BG12) is hoping its new business service, Launch Pad – designed for small companies or those with limited resource – will win the day. Design Activity hopes to elicit the feeling that “we could all be at the start of something big, if only we are given the opportunity to source with the right branding and packaging design expertise”.
EasyPack (stand D17) will be pitching Spiral Pro, which uses Easypack’s patented technology to deliver high volumes of void fill paper packaging in seconds. The 100% recycled paper offers great protection for products of all shapes and sizes, across a range of industries, while the new automated dispenser is slim-line to fit into almost any packaging unit and takes “only moments to install”.
The winning company will be awarded The Lions’ Lair accolade and the results will be announced at Packaging Innovations once all the votes have been counted.
Packaging Innovations London 2013 is co-located with Luxury Packaging and the Brand & Design Village, featuring all the latest packaging designs, solutions, trends and developments.
The Contract Pack area of the show also provides a dedicated space to meet professional outsourcing partners.
