The new Rapra market report 'Plastic Films - Situation and Outlook' provides a snapshot of the industry and its future prospects. It considers the wide range of film materials including PE, PP, PVC, PS and PET, describing their main characteristics and commenting on the industry structure and consumption of each. Commodity plastics dominate, with PE and PP together accounting for around 34Mt. The report also considers the advantages and disadvantages of each manufacturing process, with factors depending on the material in use, and the width and thickness of film required.
The report's main focus is on the dominant packaging sector, but developments in the other sectors are included. It also analyzes the industry supply structure and strategy, including profiles of and comments on about 200 plastics film companies. The area covered is worldwide, but with the emphasis on Europe (including Central and Eastern Europe). Interesting developments from North America and Asia-Pacific are included, as are comparisons to the European situation.
Rapra says the present and future demand for films is set to continue, fuelled by the strong base, the rapidly developing market in the 'rest of the world', the growing preference for flexible over rigid and the constant innovation in materials and conversion.
