Panasonic Industry presents new short pulse Fiber Laser Marker

23 November 2020

Panasonic Industry Europe introduces the successor of the Panasonic LP-V10 Series Laser Marking system: the new LP-RV Series is a 20W short pulse Fiber Laser Marker that is capable of high quality marking on various materials including plastics, resins and metals for the automotive, electronics and medical industries.

The short pulse fiber technology of the Panasonic LP-RV system is capable of producing a marking pulse with a duration as short as 1ns. Therefore the thermal effect on the workpiece is very short and reduces undesired effects like discoloring, burning or deformation. This feature is ideal for achieving high contrast results on plastic and resin materials.

The pulse duration can be increased up to maximum of 200ns (user-defined settings allow for seven steps), which allows for accurate and permanent markings on metal parts.

So the one system achieves perfect high contrast marking on metal and plastic parts.

Low heat generation realized by the short pulse beam allows the clear marking of characters measuring only 0.15mm x 0.15mm. This is ideal for applications where small products are required to contain a lot of readable information and data. Another benefit of the short pulse feature is the fast processing tact time which means it can generate a beam with high repetition allowing the laser beam to be scanned at a higher speed.

The LP-RV has been designed with a three-unit configuration, where laser head, oscillator, and controller are separate. The advantage of this is that it supports a quicker and easier installation process in contrast to conventional laser markers as the compact head unit can be easily detached from the controller and mounted in the machine. The laser head unit is also fan-less and features an IP64 rating for durable and trouble-free use in dusty or oily environments.

As the three-unit configuration of the hardware shortens the installation time the new NAVI smart software simplifies the setup of applications for marking characters, logos, 2D codes etc.

The integrated Smart Condition Setting Function is packed with our extensive knowledge of laser marking parameters such as laser power, scan speed and pulse oscillation frequency. By selecting one of 14 presets, the user can quickly test multiple settings for different workpieces like iron, stainless steel, aluminum and a wide variety of plastics.

The LP-RV series can be connected directly to a machine vision system enabling the execution of a series of operations, such as detection of the workpiece position, correction of the marking position and verification of the scanned information of a Data Matrix code (DMC), etc.

In addition, the new EtherNet/IP and PROFINET network units are available to support the PLC connection via these open industrial networks. The installation of the additional network units is easy and can be performed at any time.

With the LP-RV Series Laser Marking system, Panasonic presents a next generation powerful, automated laser marking solution for metal and plastic applications.
