Lifting print standards

9 December 2005

In the UK, a scheme to protect print buyers and improve customer service standards in print production has been launched by BSI Product Services, working with the British Printing Industries Federation. The new BSI Kitemark will provide independent endorsement of a print service provider's claim of conformity to PAS 75, the industry's benchmark of excellence.

With the Kitemark recognized as a symbol of quality, safety and trust in the UK, approved print providers will be able to differentiate themselves from their competitors, and drive business and cost savings, it is claimed.

The scheme includes design and prepress services, all forms of printing, converting, binding, finishing and inserting operations, packing, delivery, fulfilment and ancillary services. To join, a print service provider has first to demonstrate conformity to all aspects of PAS 75, including an audit of the service offered, service delivery and the operating quality system.
