Corniche delivers with DotMatch

31 October 2006

UK repro house, Corniche Fine Arts claims its DotMatch true flexo wet proofing system is “the only means of delivering proofs that can be accurately reproduced on press, on the specified substrate, using the correct ink densities and dot gain, for the flexo printing process”.

Corniche managing director Shaun Newsome comments, “We wanted to create a solution to the myriad problems that arise with the design of artwork for flexo printed packaging. At Corniche we operate a wide range of proofing devices, but neither conventional nor digital systems can truly replicate the idiosyncrasies of the flexo printing process. In response to this, we have developed a system that supports the whole design process, working with clients at every stage to ensure that they have complete control over the final look and feel of their flexo-printed product.”

A process tailored to meet the needs of individual jobs, DotMatch works by recreating the flexo process in laboratory conditions, through the application of two specially engineered proofing presses. By using the same substrate, inks, densities and dot gain as planned for the production press, Corniche utilizes anilox rollers and proofing plates to achieve a facsimile of the printing process.

Proofs created using the DotMatch process are said to guarantee the accuracy of Pantone references and process colours. The system enables the accurate measurement of ink densities and dot gain, as well as showing the true dot structure - “ultimately resulting in proofs that truly match the printed sample,” the company states.

Shaun Newsome confirms, “As the proofs accurately show how the finished product will look, customers can save time and money that would otherwise be spent on re-designing products unsuited to the flexo printing process.”

On November 30, Corniche will be visited by the Duke of Kent, as part of a tour of companies that have won Queen's Awards.
