Press performance increased

Installed on a new eight colour Flexotechnica N8G flexo CI press at major Italian converter ISEO Print, a high end eltromat system offers the company's maximum package of available delivery options. The German specialist in electronic multiprocess control equipment says the installation of the meshcon_3 system represents modern register control and web inspection at the state of the art.

Leopoldshöhe based eltromat and its Italian subsidiary eltromat Italia, of Agrate Brianza, have recently completed the project in Erbusco, Italy. They claim this example shows how eltromat's innovative process technologies can efficiently increase performance of presses and how useful options are able to maximize benefits.

Length and side register of the 400m/min running N8G are automatically adjusted immediately after start-up by the dgc_650 register control. The high quality production standard is obtained thanks to the continuous print inspection through eltromat's web video_3000, stresses the company. Additionally, the recently developed icm module for in-line colour measurement adds a new important function to the automated quality inspection.

Founded in March 2006, ISEO Print is part of packaging converting major Gruppo Cartotecnica Cortefranca. The youngest profit centre of the group, it essentially closes the loop by offering complete packaging options for food and other industries. It plans to continue attacking these markets for flexible packaging and selfadhesive labels with modern technology and controls.

Cartotecnica Cortefranca began producing boxes for the textile and shoe industry some 40 three years ago. Today the company claims to be a leading Italian industrial group producing paper, cartonboard, packaging and displays for effective point of sale.

Offering electronic register control and web inspection combined in one system, meshcon_3 is the result of intensive research and development conducted by eltromat. It is specifically tailored to meet the challenges and individual needs of today's central impression flexo printers, explains the company.

“Designed as an open system providing both high speed processor and modular system technology, meshcon_3 is a benchmarking product and an efficient tool both to increase productivity and to reduce manufacturing costs drastically,” it adds.

The eltromat PrintQuality System meshcon_3 combines professional elements of the company's eltromat_register and eltromat_visionproduct ranges. Examples include dgc_650 and web video_3000. While the dgc_650 is claimed to be an internationally proven element, stepping into register as fast and precisely as possible, eltromat goes much further with an extended range of modules for its high end web video_3000 web inspection system by a new module for in-line quality inspection.

With the development of its new icm module for in-line colour measurement, the eltromat_vision product line now comprises: module sis for the recognition of printing defects, module bc for bar code verification, module ci for register control on central impression flexo presses and module ttb for web monitoring of the upper and lower side of non-transparent materials.

Module icm for in-line colour measurement is said to add a new important function to the automatic quality inspection. Based on the CIE-Lab colour zone, the icm continuously calculates the Lab colour zone co-ordinates and the deviations between the colour and the set value (¢ E and ¢ L values). Any deviation to the reference colour is displayed to the printing operator in on-line mode by means of an easy to interpret diagram, stresses the company. The operator will define measuring points on any possible spots in the picture and recognize colour changes quickly and easily by means of a few key strokes.

The excellent repetition accuracy is said to ensure good reliability of the measured values obtained. “Printing operators will appreciate this new module after a short period, sustainably supporting them, as it does, in precise ink usage during the printing process,” says eltromat.
