More than ‘just’ quality

With headquarters in Bielefeld Germany and subsidiaries and factories all over the world, BST International supplies the market with products for web guiding, video web inspection, print management,100% defect detection, register control, tyre control automation systems, and also colour management. The company is active in a wide range of industries including converting, printing and packaging, non-woven, corrugated, extrusion and tyre industries.

Kristian Juenke states that producing of high quality converting products today requires many different elements to all come together to achieve the optimum results. “The substrate and ink quality, the production conditions and press accuracy and the skill of the press operator are some of the aspects important for good production. For industry standards you also need correct register and colour control, web inspection technology and last but not least the precise web guiding components.”

Mr Juenke says that no manufacturer today can produce without the integration of quality assuring systems like the ones BST offers. The machine speeds, the need to save material and costs, but above all the customer’s demands for zero-defect end products require automated and highly accurate tools.

“Automation to a high degree, easy operation and fast set-up times together with a short payback time are the key arguments for any of our products,” says Mr Juenke. “It doesn’t matter if our customer wants to check the readability of a barcode, to control the accuracy of the running web, to monitor the colour quality or to get in register in fastest possible time - we offer the solution.”

Mr Juenke commented “From the beginning to the end of a project we constantly focus on the customer’s requirements; we consult with the client before any suggestions are made and find out exactly what their customers expect from them. different applications will require different types of technological approaches – we offer the best fitting solution for every individual application. We constantly try to adapt to the changing requirements of our markets and enhance our product range accordingly. This also results in increasing our R&D capacities by almost 20% to integrate the newest technology in our products.”

In the web inspection sector BST covers the whole range from basic viewing systems, high-end print management systems with highest image quality and numerous functions up to 100% print defect detection and workflow systems.

The range of web guiding products cover plug-and-produce devices for narrow web applications as well as highly accurate sensor technology, actuators with different adjusting speeds and forces (e.g. for slitter and rewinder) and complex systems for sophisticated guiding applications.

“In particular, our CLS Pro 600 line and contrast sensor offers a broad range of application flexibility,” comments Mr Juenke. Thousands units of this sensor are already sold since the market introduction in late 2008.

“It’s not too much to say that mainly the converters love this sensor. With its colour display for fast identification of the printed line or contrast, the laser positioning and the high measuring accuracy it’s easy in operation and exact at the same time. The result is a precise web run from beginning to the end of each roll and job produced.”

Ease in operation and precision in the production result is also where Mr Juenke sees the focus and also the advantage of BST products now and in the future. “Our customers are under high pressure to save money, material and time on the one hand and to produce the highest quality for their customers on the other. Whether if we are talking about web inspection or web guiding, the solutions to face these demands are systems which can be set up and run by just a few clicks and automatically monitor the quality. This results in less waste, more time for the operator to concentrate on his job and better product quality at the same time.”
