Discover a wider digital world

16 April 2014

FESPA Digital is the shop window for the wide format digital printing industry. The sixth edition of the show, featuring more than 400 global exhibitors, takes place at the Messe Munich, Germany, from 20-23 May 2014.

The theme of the international marketing campaign for next month's FESPA Digital 2014, is 'Dive Deeper Into Digital'. It aims to evoke "the colourful ocean of opportunity that is open to printers and their customers, helping them explore and enhance their businesses by diving deeper into new possibilities in digital print".

FESPA managing director Neil Felton expounds: "Digital printers are creative explorers who constantly push the boundaries of print. FESPA Digital events inspire visitors to discover innovations in technology and consumables, and network with experts and peers to make sense of what they find."

He continues: "'We're encouraging visitors to to go below the surface, and delve further still into the myriad opportunities that exist to
take their businesses forward. In a market where technology is becoming more mature, many of the visitors to our Digital events have
already reaped the early benefits from the transition from analogue to digital. Now they are making second - or third - generationdigital investments or upgrades, increasing digital capacity, and adding workflow software or finishing equipment to enhance
the capabilities, productivity and functionality of their digital output equipment.

"FESPA Digital 2014 will reflect this evolution, offering a high calibre educational programme that probes beyond the initial benefits of the digital 'revolution', helping visitors discover more about how digital technology can help them add new capabilities and services."

On the stands
Exhibitors will include Agfa Graphics, showing its enhanced range of Anapurna engines, as well as the new Jeti Titan S/HS true flatbed UV inkjet printers, said to combine speed with "exceptional print quality at the sharpest price". All Agfa printers are part of a complete package including a vast assortment of dedicated inks as well as the Asanti workflow automation software, which will drive all engines on the stand. Asanti StoreFront is a cloud-based web-to-print system said to help users expand their activities and explore new markets. Stand 345 in Hall B1.

Products revealed by Bordeaux Digital Printink (stand 340 in Hall B2) will include new ink solutions designed specifically for Roland Pro4 and Epson Surecolour printers. These formulations are claimed to be the only inks available that are fully compatible with OEM. Other inks will include flexible and rigid UV and UV LED, together with water-based dye digital inks for sublimation and direct printing. Eco solvent, mild solvent and true solvent inks on show will include Bordeaux's Mix & Match ink for Mimaki,Mutoh, Seiko, HP, Agfa and other printers.

Colorific is to launch its first wide format print-and-cut machine, the UV640PC, on stand 440 in Hall B1. The 1.6m printer is said to combine the benefits of solvent and UV curable chemistries to provide a viable, cost-effective alternative to latex while offering the
photo-realistic print quality critical to many applications at this market level. Based on a Roland VS640i chassis, Colorific's UV Light
inks are used in this new engine to offer "the vivid colours expected from solvent with the resistance and durability associated with UV curable options". Crucially, outgassing is said to be eliminated and shrinkage non-existent, meaning that output is immediately dry and ready for application. This is said to save time and, using Colorific's SUV formula, dramatically reduce the production cost for a square metre of print. The UV640PC incorporates Epson's latest printhead technology, the DX7, reaching up to 1,440dpi in high quality mode. Production mode allows for 21m²/hour.

Visitors to stand 110 in Hall B1 will see how EFI's intelligent, automated inkjet workflow solutions integrate job submission and
production management processes with the Vutek printer and Fiery XF integrated workflow, which "optimises and streamlines print production processes and achieves sustainable cost and process improvements on every job", according to the company.

Optimus is exhibiting the Optimus Dash management information system (MIS) designed specifically to cater for all methods of digital, screen and specialist print production. The system can aid strategic decision making, as key trends showing bottlenecks and profitability are easily highlighted. Software modules can help automate the fundamentals of estimates and job bag creation, along with an integrated approach to stock control, purchasing, e-commerce and accounts. Dash is claimed to have increased productivity "four times over" in some companies. Optimus Cloud will also be showcased - a "truly integrated solution to managing Web2Print and MIS job creation". Cloud Mobile will also show real-time MIS tablet device ordering capability. Stand 538 in Hall B1.

Screen Europe (Hall B2, stand 171) will showcase the versatility of its Truepress JetW3200UV flatbed printer. Visitors to the stand will not only see it printing a variety of jobs, but will also view high speed lenticular and multilayer applications, demonstrating the advanced drop control of this printer. A joint development between Screen and its subsidiary company Inca Digital, the 6-colour + white Truepress Jet W3200UV wasdeveloped as a cost-effective solution for PSPs looking to upgrade from legacy high quality,
low speed printers to "a new generation printer that combines high quality with high productivity". Continuous high speed production at up to 85m²/hour is ensured by the printer's sophisticated nozzle mapping, ink mist extraction system and automatic cleaning station technologies. The machine will print onto a wide range of rigid and flexible media up to 3.2 x 1.6m in size and up to a maximum 50mm thickness.

The advantages of laser finishing of printed materials such as acrylics and paper will be promoted by Trotec. On stand 330 in Hall B2, the company will demonstrate different applications as well as laser engraving and cutting machines with a camera system. Using the camera system, printed materials can be cut with intricate shapes and "an impressive attention to detail", the company states. The large size Speedy 500 laser engraver, the Speedy 400 and the "unique" Speedy 300 flexx systems will each be presented as solutions for high volume paper processing.

On stand 360 in Hall A1, visitors will learn about a new reflective fabric from TTS Texo Trade Services that can be printed with
sublimation transfer. The fabric is coated with transparent reflective dots that make it reflective in the dark, but on the other hand do not compromise the density and gamut of the colours that can be achieved. With its "high precision and reasonable starting price", the Mat Pro Ultra V flatbed cutting plotter is, according to Valiani Cutting Machines, "the answer for all applications in the offset/digital printing industries and packaging market". Said to be ideal for sheet diecutting, packaging prototypes, mock-ups, signs, and labels, the UltraV is a medium format professional cutting plotter capable of: cutting, half-cutting and creasing; V-Cut/embossing/
debossing; and crop mark detection. It can be used on a broad range of materials up to 5mm thick. Stand 153 in Hall B1.

On stand 460 in Hall B2, synthetic paper producer Yupo will display its "revolutionary products that stick without adhesive". YupoTako, YupoJelly and YupoStatic are claimed to adhere to flat and rough surfaces, and can be removed "as many times as you
want". No adhesive or glue is involved, so no residue is left on the applied surfaces. These products are said to be easy to apply and
bubble-free, environmentally friendly and 100% recyclable. Yupo will also display FPU and Block-Out, combining the strength of
synthetic paper made of polypropylene, with durability and water resistance, and a smooth and strong surface for a high quality and
durable image printed by UV digital. FPU is also 100% recyclable.

Xerox is to demonstrate the Wide Format IJP 2000 high speed, single-pass inkjet printer with a "breakthrough" speed of up to 420m²/
hour. Suitable for production of large quantities of wide format jobs, or for turning prints around very quickly, the IJP 2000 uses water-resistant inks the dry instantly on a variety of materials such as banner fabric, Tyvek, photo gloss and satin papers, and backlit or stoplight films. The machine is powered by the Caldera GrandRIP+ and will be displayed with a variety of finishing partners. Stand 360 in Hall B2.
