Faes colour coded machine combination covers multiple applications


This month, Faes unveils its new modular machine system at ICE China in Shanghai. The Swiss company, one of the leading suppliers of slitting and rewinding machines for TTR foils, claims it sets new standards, in responding to customer needs in terms of quality, functionality, flexibility and cost efficiency.

The new modular machine concept is said to be the result of application oriented engineering and functional design to address the many different needs of the converting industry more directly and effectively. New machines have been developed older models improved.

New areas of business have also been added to the company's existing ones: it now offers systems for the label, embossing, RFID, lint roller and hot stamping foil industries. The slitting and rewinding product line has been “systematized”, and Faes now offers seven machines for an extensive range of different applications.

The design has also been “freshened up” with a new colour concept - the names of the seven new systems each matching the colour of the design. The seven colours form a code, relating to the applications of each machine type.

Developed to convert hot stamping foil, the new system rot (red) is already being used by customers. The system gelb (yellow), for finishing labels, embossing and RFID, is claimed to “slash” the user's unit production costs. The machines formerly used in the production of TTR foil are revamped as the system blau (blue) and system violett (violet), both with a new design and enhanced functionality. System orange is designed for manufacturing lint rollers, system gruen (green) is for converting thermo transfer and hot stamping foils, labelstock, aluminium, paper and other materials in small to medium production runs. Finally, the new system grau (grey) will process special purpose materials.

System rot and system gelb are among the highlights of the new modular generation. System rot is used to convert hot stamping foil and other types of foil in large production runs. Designed for maximum productivity, it is suitable for use with various core sizes. The foil can be wound onto both 1 and 3in diameter cores. Frictioning is possible on cores as small as 1in diameter and guarantees outstanding product quality, says Faes. Flexibility in handling small or large production runs with different winding diameters is said to save time.

The maximum rewinding outside diameter with a turret is 310mm, and 600mm without. The unwinding OD of 1,000mm can be increased to 1,200mm, if required. Maximum working width is 1,600mm. Laser core positioning, automatic edge control and frictioning are said to guarantee high finished roll quality and open up other slitting and automation options.

A jumbo lifting mechanism and touchscreen are also claimed to make system rot extremely user friendly.

The system gelb has a cantilever design that is said to make it ideal for converting labels, embossing and RFID work. The six stage production process is fully automatic and further enhanced by a turret system. With a maximum working width of 254mm, the machine will slit widths from 20mm upwards.

The winding, rewinding, product removal, core fitting and gluing stages, as well as despatch, are all handled simultaneously. The machine is said to be extremely reliable, even when operating continuously. According to Faes, users will benefit from minimum unit costs.

Apart from conventional operations, the system gelb can be easily adapted for use with different sizes and types of product. Its dual unwinding principle is also said to increase the effective running time by shortening stoppage time. Taking 13s to convert 10m rolls, the machine is claimed to be highly productive.
