Trade exhibition season is showing the way forward

25 September 2013

The traditional cry of "it's showtime!" could well be heard around the industry at this time of the year. Exhibitions for two major business sectors are very much to the forefront just now. In addition to the second instalment of our preview of this month's Labelexpo Europe 2013 event in Brussels, this issue of Converting Today also features an advanced look at some of the
innovations for plastics film processors and converters that will be displayed at the K 2013 show in Düsseldorf, in October.

Our news section this month also includes details of the launch of a dedicated converting industry show to be staged in the UK next year by easyFairs, organiser of the Packaging Innovations series of events held throughout Europe (see below). Although exhibitions cost exhibitors and visitors time and money, the major dedicated shows such as Drupa, ICE, Labelexpo and Packaging Innovations play an essential part in providing both a meeting place for the converting industry's professionals to discuss and exchange ideas and information, and a platform for manufacturers and suppliers to present their latest technology to the market.

Without a doubt, as demonstrated by the many new developments and innovations that figure in our previews of Labelexpo Europe and the K show, these major events provide an ideal platform for visitors to learn about how the industry's technology is progressing - and to gain an insight into the best way forward for their businesses.

Converting Innovations, a new show to be co-located with the highly successful Packaging Innovations event, will make its debut at
the UK's NEC venue in Birmingham on 26-27 February next year. According to organiser easyFairs, the new show will aim to offer
"everything from materials to machinery; contract services to print services; as well as the latest ideas for inspiring stand-out packaging".

The concluding part of our Labelexpo Europe 2013 preview is included in this issue. Like labels and narrow web, plastics film is a major sector within the converting industry. And as with Labelexpo Europe for the former, the K 2013 show will be a 'must visit' destination for everyone involved in production, processing, converting and printing of plastics film. .

Aside from the strong 'showtime' element of this month's issue, we also have features looking at the latest developments in prepress and web inspection technology, and their application in the industry. Finally, the Last Word from Mark Williamson of Stemmer Imaging suggests a new approach to web inspection applications using the latest types of image sensor.
