Wrapping tissue rolls

1 December 2005

Georgia Pacific has installed an FIS Impianti Axial 96 fully automatic reel wrapping machine with rotating platform and deformable belt conveyor on a Johnothan tissue machine at its Llangynwyd paper mill, in the UK.

The axial style system handles soft tissue rolls 2,600 and 3,400mm wide and with diameters of 1,000 and 2,600mm, at a minimum rate of 6/hour. Maximum weight handled is 4t, an the only manual operation required is wrap film replacement and maintenance.

A tilting steel structure automatically transfers reels to the wrapper from a clamp truck, to ensure there is no collision between clamp and electric trucks and wrapper. Once wrapped, the reel is ejected from the wrapping machine, taking the reel axis out from the conveyor. In this position, the clamp truck can pick it up without causing damage.

Also incorporated is a motorized pre-stretch unit, to dispense the correct amount of film in respect of paper roll softness; hydraulic cradle adjustment; and a cutting arm with sealing device and clamps to make all wrapping operations, including start of cycle and final film cut, fully automatic.
