Witko pack counts on corn

2 October 2006

New from US company Witko is EcoStretch, a high impact, PVC-free, “next generation” carded package that offers maximum shelf appeal and point-of-purchase impact by combining a printed die-cut card with a fully compostable corn based film. Produced by Plastic Suppliers, the EarthFirst PLA film is said to deliver the clarity consumer products companies, retailers and consumers demand; is PVC-free and when composted, breaks down into carbon dioxide and water.

In another innovation for ‘user friendly’ packaging, Witko developed the patented Easy Open feature for the Stretch Pak. The pack’s card and film are perforated in register to make it easy to tear open the card and remove the product. Even with the Easy Open perforation, the Stretch Pak is said to retain its tamper evident benefit. The Easy Open feature is claimed to add little cost to the overall package, while delivering “tremendous value” in terms of user convenience and as an important point of differentiation.
