Westland rolls into UK

10 March 2003

German manufacturer Westland is now manufacturing its sheet-fed and web press rollers in a £1.5M factory at Corby, in the UK. The venture is in partnership with the company's distributor, MAN Roland GB.

A number of senior representatives from the German plant have moved to Corby, and the company expects to employ some 20 people at the site when it is in full production. Peter van Dijk will be managing director of the UK company, Westland Rollers Ltd.

"This decision has come after careful analysis of the roller market," says Georg zur Nedden, Westland's chief executive. "There is a price war going on at the bottom of the market, but there is very little else on offer at the premium end of the market. We feel that with the quality of the product, coupled with the sales strength of our UK partner, MAN Roland, it is realistic to aim for 20 per cent of the UK roller business over the next two years, in addition to our existing OEM contracts."
