Warning for UK suppliers

2 July 2008

Plimsoll Publishing’s latest report on the UK packaging materials industry warns that zero growth, sliding profits and escalating debts “have pushed a third of the suppliers to the brink of failure”. The survey of the top 1,000 UK companies is said to reveal that “consolidation is essential as supply is outstripping demand.”

Plimsoll’s David Pattison comments: “The figures just prove that a period of consolidation is long overdue. Bit by bit the weaker players will be removed from the market. These companies must put immediate plans in place to start to trade their way out of their problems. Stringent measures must be put in place before it’s too late.”
