VPK plans new paper mill

12 September 2008

Belgium’s VPK Packaging Group plans to invest €200M in a new paper mill to produce 300,000 t/year of lightweight recycled corrugated case material (80-160 g/m²). The location of the new plant, which will create 150 new jobs, has not yet been decided, but it is expected to be operational in 2011.

This investment will bring VPK’s paper production capacity to 800,000 t. Paper consumption in the group’s packaging plants is expected to reach the same level in 2011, so the production will be almost completely integrated within the group.

VPK currently has 26 plants and 3,000 employees spread across 12 European countries. At the beginning of 2008, the group divested its Dutch trading activity, Twinpack, to concentrate on the group’s key activities. It recently acquired a display manufacturing plant (Saucas Europe POS) and a solid board converter (Smart Packaging Solutions), both located in Belgium.
