Visible security feature directly integrated to label paper

11 September 2012

At Labelexpo Americas 2012 in Chicago, US company Neenah Paper and Prooftag of France are launching a “cost effective security solution” claimed to ensure that each label, tag or seal is unique with an individual fingerprint for authentication. Neenah Secure Labels are based on a security paper for the manufacture of authentication tags using the chaometrics authentication principles developed and patented by Prooftag of France.

A random fibre orientation in the paper media is said to provide an accessible solution to problems of counterfeiting and forgery. Enabled by Prooftag’s visual authentication concept, this paper is designed for printers to enable web access for authentication by recording labels made on Neenah Secure authentication paper through the Prooftag Labelrec equipment.

Labels produced with Neenah Secure paper will be printed with a unique identifier, such as QR, 2D, or alphanumeric code. This code is matched with the random embedded fibre image, and the end-user can verify the authenticity of the code and corresponding fibre image with a smart phone or other verification device along the supply chain. The fibre image and code are recorded at printing and stored for instant recall and comparison.
