Varnish protects preprint

6 December 2005

Michelman says its ThermaGloss overprint varnishes protect preprint linerboard from hotplate damage, eliminating the need for box manufacturers to reduce hotplate temperatures which ensure proper starch bonding. ThermaGloss coated linerboard passes safely through the corrugator without picking, softening, or smearing - increasing productivity by enabling the corrugator to run at a faster speed, the company states.

ThermaGloss coatings are water reducing acrylic emulsions, with limited FDA compliance. They are designed for flexo or gravure application on preprint presses. Commonly used on retail packaging, POP displays, and for general ink protection, they are also said to be ideal for clay coated linerboard because of the glossy finish they provide.
