UV upgrade cures press problems

19 August 2005

Varese, Italy, based label printer Artes Etichette has invested in a VCP UV up-grade from GEW (EC) for a six colour letterpress machine, to replace the original two lamps per print unit with one. This is said to have cut running costs significantly, while increasing press speed and curing capacity on the 200mm press.

Franco Pagano, GEW sales manager Southern Europe comments: "The fact that our VCP system is designed around the use of one UV lamp not only gives the customer power savings, but also provides economies as far as replacement bulbs since the number of lamps has virtually been reduced by half ".

Before the retrofit, the press speed was limited to around 40m/min. Now Artes Etichette says it consistently operates it at 70 to 80m/min, with increased print quality on a range of pressure sensitive substrates from paper to films.
