In the summer of 2014, Zeller+Gmelin GmbH & Co. KG successfully launched on the market two new opaque white products for rotary screen printing from the series Optiscreen SR-X55. At about the same time, the also newly developed chromatic colour series Optiscreen SR-Z1 was presented. Since then, the mono-pigmented Z1-basic colours have proven to be successful in practice at many international label printers due to their excellent product characteristics.

In parallel to this, the ink manufacturer from Eislingen has also performed plastic tube printing tests with the same ink series. They were carried out in cooperation with the Swiss company Polytype AG, Fribourg. Tests were performed on a Linearis modular printing system. This newly developed system from Polytype facilitates the printing of high-quality plastic tubes. Rotary flexo and screen printing can be combined with various finishing options such as foil stamping (both hot and cold foil process) and varnishing (gloss or matt finish and spot coating) and optionally further finishing processes. Since the actual print processes as well as their order can be freely selected with the Linearis system, the printing of decorative tubes, particularly for example for premium products in the cosmetics sector, can be easily accomplished.

When applied with this printing system, the Optiscreen colours delivered impressively good results, so much so that the company Polytype now recommends these printing inks as standard colours for rotary screen printing on their Linearis system. The ink series has good adhesion, high scratch resistance and is fast curing. In addition, it features high opacity and an even ink laydown. It can be printed with printing screens from all established suppliers such as Stork, Gallus Screeny or Kocher+Beck and allows accurate printing of both fine types and solids at high speeds.

The Optiscreen chromatic colour series SR-Z1 is delivered by Zeller+Gmelin as a mono-pigmented printing ink sytem. This provides a number of further advantages, such as the ability to print at low filmweight due to the high colour intensity. Furthermore, mixed inks are stronger and purer in colour, as only the necessary pigments are used for colour mixes. With mono-pigmented printing inks the user gains flexibility when it comes to adjusting the intensity of spot colours. In addition, they simplify colour communication with the printing ink manufacturer, which can effectively shorten the delivery time required for special mixes. In order to document the outstanding printing properties of the ink series for customers, Zeller+Gmelin has prepared printed proofs of the various mono-pigmented basic colours on tube laminate.
