Uteco and Kodak integrate flexo and digital printing

Italian flexo press builder is now offering its 8-colour Onyx 810 flexo system fitted with two Kodak Prosper S20 Imprinting Systems, one black and one colour.

The S20 is one of Kodak's Prosper S-Series Imprinting Systems, whose inkjet technology promises excellent quality in overprinting jobs produced by other print processes - in this case flexo. They can be easily integrated into existing production processes and offer various print speeds and resolutions, for a high degree of customisation.

Leonardo Gobbi, Uteco's commercial and marketing director, explains: "The benefits of hybrid printing merge the flexibility and high productivity of flexo with the unique capacity of digital printing to manage the variable data which customises each individual print job and packaging application. Uteco and Kodak are able to offer producers of printed packaging all the advantages of this integration in order to achieve extremely innovative, customized and communicative printing".

Kodak marketing director digital printing solutions Erwin Busselot says: "The Uteco integration opens up new opportunities for the packaging world in its quest for innovation and development. Both companies have worked to create a hybrid system that combines the best of flexo and digital printing technologies that will enable Uteco's customers to produce applications on paper labels, tissue and film."

The two Prosper S20's print to a 10.56cm width at a resolution of 600 x 300dpi in black plus one colour at 600m/min - fully in line with the production speed of Uteco's flexo machine. The heads are positioned after the flexo printing stations and can be moved along the width of the reel, depending on where the printing of data or images is required.
