Upgrade boosts laminator capabilities

28 March 2011

The Asitrade litho laminator at Menasha Packaging’s display plant in Philadelphia has been upgraded to increase its capacity, produce superior printing surfaces and expands the US company's product offerings.

Equipment upgrades include a new single facer, automatic splicers, roll-fed substrate capability, the ability to produce longer sheets, and the addition of c-flute single-face lamination for graphic packaging with improved stacking strength.

Menasha expects the upgrades to reduce the amount of natural gas consumed in production by 27%, conserve electricity ‘equivalent to that of 25 refrigerators’, and decrease the amount of paper consumed by 3.2%.

The company also plans to decommission its 78 inch corrugator that currently runs in tandem with the Asitrade. This will improve plant efficiencies and free up space for future growth.
