UK’s first 3.35 corrugator

21 December 2009

Saica Pack has installed what is said to be the UK’s first 3.35 corrugator at its Wigan Plant. Supplied by BHS, the single-wall machine is capable of producing B, C and E-flute at up to 400m/min. It has an annual capacity of up to 200 million m2 of sheet board/year and has been especially designed to run Saica performance papers.

The machine incorporates the Saica Pack’s own process control system, which constantly checks the corrugated board as it is being produced and enables automatic waste removal equipment to retire any unfit board before it reaches the end of the machine. Sensors at both the wet and dry ends of the machine check for temperature and moisture, automatically adjusting the speed and other parameters to suit the type of work.

Andrew Chamberlain, managing director of Saica Pack North enthuses: “Not only is it the fastest corrugator in the UK, but is also hugely efficient. It enables us to better serve our customers, to provide a top quality product and to do so with a reduced impact on the environment.”
