UK companies favour euro

23 June 2003

As the date for the UK Government's announcement on the results of the five economic tests for the euro looms on June 9, a survey has found that UK firms involved in trading overseas are gaining confidence in the euro. The research by Bibby Trade Finance shows that 58 per cent of companies believe the UK should definitely join the euro, a 10 per cent increase on this time last year. Of these, 22 per cent feel that Britain should join immediately, while 36 per cent prefer entry in a few years.

Stuart Relton, managing director of BTF, says; "Confidence is growing and firms are beginning to look beyond their original concerns and are seeing the real benefits." (See also story 'UK confidence falters').
