7 February 2011

Indian Flexible Packaging conglomerate the Uflex Group has commissioned its new greenfield BOPP film plant in Egypt. The 6th October City site is located about 40km from Cairo.

The state-of-the-art 8.7m wide, 500m/min coextruded BOPP film line is believed to be one of the world’s largest and can turn out over 35,000 tonnes/year. It is supplemented by a 2.85m wide plasma enhanced high-barrier vacuum metalliser.

The second phase of the project this year will install a coextruded cast propylene (CPP) film line, followed by a new 8.7m, 500m/min coextruded BOPET film line that can deliver 36,000 tonnes/year. This will also be supplemented by a new high-barrier metalliser.

Apart from the lines in Egypt, a new 8.7m BOPET film line is also being installed at the Uflex Mexico facility at Altamira. With the lines presently under installation, the group will become one of the world’s top three BOPET film producers.
