UC Rusal to expand foil production

4 January 2008

Russian aluminium producer UC Rusal is to invest $20M in building a packaging foil plant near the city of Dmitrov, in the Moscow region. Due to come on stream by the end of 2009, the plant will have an annual capacity of 20,000t and will increase UC Rusal’s share of the Russian foil and foil based packaging market by up to 66 per cent.

Packaging products from the plant will be shipped to the Russian market to meet demand that has been growing recently an average 5.8 per cent/year. Potential customers include food and pharmaceuticals manufacturers, among them Wrigley and Kraft Foods.

UC Rusal packaging division director Alexander Burdin states: “The fast growing market is forcing manufacturers to expand and renew their range of products. Today we are manufacturing foil based products in Russia that comply with the highest international quality standards. We will continue to develop and plan to double the production of our alufoil based flexible packaging in Russia within three years.”
