Total ink control systems from single source supplier

16 June 2004

Advanced Supplies is offering single source supply of three key elements of the 'ink control loop'. Delivery is by the Optiflo range of ink pumps from Johnson Pump. Application comes through the Delpro carbon fibre chambered doctor blade. Control is provided by the M50 viscometer from Norcross.

The technology used in the Optiflo range is claimed to overcome problems inherent within most conventional diaphragm pumps. Firstly, the 'central' flow path, as opposed to the more conventional 'peripheral' flow path, reduces air consumption and minimizes energy losses.

Secondly, the patented Flexible Diaphragm Suspension is the key to Optiflo's major feature - the ultra low pulsation that makes it ideal for use with chambered doctor blades. The diaphragms are not fixed to the central shaft - creating an overlapping motion resulting in a smooth, even flow. In addition, the FDS technology is said to minimize the stresses that are normally placed on diaphragms, substantially increasing their service life. The self cleaning and non stalling air motor works with any kind of air - dry or moist, dirty or oily. And use of flap valves instead of ball valves is said to reduce noise levels and allows easier handling of solid particles.

Delpro's carbon fibre chambered doctor blade now offers totally tool-less blade and seal change-over which is claimed to keep press downtime and makeready times to an absolute minimum. The Norcross falling piston method of measurement is also said to be so sensitive that it can measure the change in the viscosity of water due to temperature fluctuations.
