Thermoformable film gains patent

6 October 2003

Pechiney Plastic Packaging has received a US patent for its multilayer thermoformable film. When heated in the customer's plant, the nylon/LLDPE, co-extruded flat film forms deeply shaped pockets that keep product secure within the formed packaging.

This new pliable film structure is said to have the advantage of conforming more closely than traditional flat films to the vacuum packed product. It is also claimed to exhibit excellent resistance to flex cracking, while maintaining the benefits of clarity and peelability for ease of opening. It can be used for frozen food, meats, boil-in-bag soups and healthcare products.
