The SAM Group Announces Solution Coating Technical Center
SAM is scheduled to open SAMLab 3 - Solution Coating Technical Center at its headquarters in South Korea by the end of the year. This expansion will be in addition to SAM's two other technical centers, SAMLab 1 - Sungan Printed Electronics Laboratory, located in Korea and SAMLab 2 - Extrusion Technical Center, located at SAM North America in Phoenix, New York.
This semi-production facility is designed for customer product development trials and demonstrations, toll coating and solution coating trials. SAM will also conduct internal research and development in order to remain at the leading edge of technology in the coating industry.
Don Teich, Vice President of Solution Coating, states "We decided to locate this pilot facility in Korea because of the need for a line of this type in Asia and our growing solution coating business."
The machine is designed for running water and solvent based, 100% solids, and hot melt coatings with a maximum width of 1,040 mm at speeds up to 1,000 meters per minute. The line will have modular coating capabilities of slot die, micro gravure, pressurized chamber doctor blade; direct/reverse/offset gravure, S-knife (comma), reverse roll, semi-flexo, 5-roll and transfer roll to start. The line includes a 22 meter, 7 zone flotation and roll support dryer, one of the largest and most versatile in the industry.
Unique features of the machine line are automatic turrets at the primary unwind and winder for continuous running. Additional features include a secondary unwind for wet and dry laminations, corona treatment, web cleaning, steam re-moisturizing and UV curing.
