Take-over strengthens pharma packaging pact

Italian carton packaging leader Palladio, part of the Copapharm Europe pharma packaging alliance, has acquired carton and labelling specialist Grafica-Zannini for an undisclosed sum. The existing management will remain in place, with Flaminio Farnesi and Eugenia Spiacci as company president and vice president, respectively. It will continue to operate autonomously from Palladio while the two companies develop "develop further important synergies for pharmaceutical packaging, in order to attain an important strategic role in their business sector".

Grafica-Zannini and Palladio both specialize in the production of printed packaging materials for the pharmaceutical industry, together share a claimed 40 per cent of the Italian folding carton sector, with a combined turnover of around €50M and 350 staff. Palladio has two plants in Dueville and Thiene (Vicenza), producing folding cartons and leaflets for the pharmaceutical industry, also cosmetic products. Grafica-Zannini also has two plants, in Ospedaletto (Pisa) and Pontedera, plus major holdings in related companies in Tullamore, Ireland, and Vrsac, Serbia. In addition to folding cartons, it produces adhesive labels, pharmaceutical security labels, leaflets and printed aluminium for pharmaceuticals.

The €197M turnover Copapharm Alliance's member companies, now with a total of 19 manufacturing sites across Europe, work closely with pharmaceutical manufacturers to create appropriate packaging solutions.
