System improves process development

17 March 2008

Novosis has installed an integrated Doyen Medipharm transdermal device converting and packaging line at its facilities in Miesbach, Germany.

The new system is said to optimize the development and production of a variety of transdermal devices as it is adaptable to manufacture products in different shapes and sizes with a minimum of downtime for change-over. A customized process minimizes ladder waste of the drug. Automatic registration optimizes the cut position, decreasing the number of patches rejected by the integrated quality control station.

The system uses Doyen’s transdermal device manufacturing and four side seal packaging technologies, converting up to 25m of PET/PE per minute. The transdermal patches are fed automatically onto a 4SS-400 four-side seal pouching machine to be hermetically sealed into peelable packs. An integrated quality control system detects and rejects splice, empty pouches and misplaced products.

Hubert Kaffl, head of process development at Novosis, comments: “Doyen has provided us with a production line that is flexible enough to run tests on a varied range of transdermal devices. I am delighted to say that we have recently placed an order for a second machine.”
