Svecom standard at Slater Harrison

20 October 2010

As part of an on-going maintenance programme, UK-based Slater Harrison has standardised all shafts on its slitting and coating machines to Svecom PE models. Over the last two years some 30 shafts have been purchased, eight this year alone for different applications in the company’s mill at Bollington, UK.

One of the reasons for choosing Svecom PE as sole supplier, says Chief Engineer Steve Fairbrother, is the light weight of the multi-bladder shaft and the resulting Health and Safety benefits this brings during manual handling. Additionally, the cost of repairing the existing shafts was prohibitive in comparison to buying the new Svecom shafts that come with a full 1-year warranty on parts and labour.

Among the advantages said to have accrued from this standardisation are lower maintenance costs due to the shaft design, spares being interchangeable between all machines, and having a local representative that can service and advise on applications – Svecom’s UK representative Jarshire.
