Sustainable ink success

28 May 2009

Sun Chemical won the Technical Achievement/Environmental Award in this year’s EFTA annual print awards. The accolade recognises the company’s “commitment to developing its green credentials, whilst also acknowledging its position as an industry leader in product development and innovation”.

The award was presented to both Sun Chemical and co-supplier Innovia Films, for the development of a sustainable combination of biodegradable film and a hybrid ink range. Sun's solvent based inks use existing NC colour bases modified with renewable materials. The result is said to be approximately 80 per cent derived as a wet ink and 50 per cent as a dried ink film.

Sun developed these inks with Innovia for use on the NatureFlex range of films.
