SUCCESS FOR ROYSTON LABELS AT FINAT AWARDS

Specialist label manufacturer, Royston Labels, has won a top award at this year's FINAT competition in the 'self-promotion' category, for their innovative 8-colour, cold foil butterfly design entitled 'Touching Beauty'.

The FINAT Awards, which are in their 35th year, showcase the best in self-adhesive label printing and print and converting accuracy. Awards are given in the main segments where self-adhesive labels are used: alcoholic beverages, food, household, industrial, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, security labels, self-promotion and booklet/coupon labels, plus for the major reel-fed print processes.

Their winning butterfly design was constructed by initially printing silver foil onto a white synthetic substrate. A set of colours were then printed over the top of the foil to produce a high lustre finish, matching the details of the thousands of tiny scales which form a butterfly's wings.

Thereafter a specialised matt textured soft-touch substrate was then applied to mimic the texture of a butterfly's wings. Clear silk screen varnish was then applied over the abdomen and wings to give a three dimensional appearance and then a high quality gloss silk screen with a strong pigmented ink was used to print the company name and logo. Finally a newly developed sparkled satin spot varnish was added.

By pushing the boundaries with their technical and quality expertise, Royston Labels' design clearly impressed the judging panel, who commented: "This label shows off to perfection the abilities of Royston Labels.....the end result is a delightfully delicate rendering of a butterfly which does the company credit."

Royston Labels' managing director, Paul Clayton, who attended the awards ceremony at the annual FINAT congress on 11 June 2015 in Amsterdam, said: "I'm delighted to receive a FINAT award for this design. The label was complex in many ways, not least in reproducing all the fine detail in the wings and adding the required depth of colour to create a highly striking, impactful label."

All winning entries were displayed at the recent FINAT congress. They will be on show again at Labelexpo Europe 2015, which takes place September 29 to October 2 in Brussels.
