Stora Enso shutdowns

Changes at Stora Enso’s Imatra, Varkaus and Veitsiluoto mills in Finland are expected to affect more than 560 staff .

The Corenso Coreboard Machine at Varkaus will shut down permanently by the end of this year - and Imatra's Board Machine One by the end of 2009. The PE Coating Machine Two at Imatra will also be shut down in May 2009, as will the PE machine at Karhula by the end of 2010.

The total number of personnel will be reduced by 329 at Imatra and Karhula, 136 at Varkaus and 96 at Veitsiluoto. Around 330 of these are currently estimated to have an offer of employment within Stora Enso or "other arrangements for their future".
