The Sterile Barrier Association (SBA) has launched a new website.
The organisation, which represents about 80% of the European manufacturers of sterile barrier systems for the healthcare industry around the world, is an associate member of Eucomed, the European Medical Device Manufacturers Association, and is active on such issues as the drafting of sterile barrier packaging regulations and providing feedback on the plans for a new Medical Device Directive.
With separate sections for medical device manufacturers, healthcare professionals and the general public, the new SBA website, at www.sterilebarrier.org, provides general and specialist information on the journey of a sterile medical device, including the choice of different types of packaging and packaging equipment, sterilisation techniques and the issues surrounding contamination by bacteria and viruses, as well as links to other related websites and online videos.
SBA director general David Harding says: "The new website is intended to be much more educational and has been structured to provide information to three key groups: the general public, healthcare professionals, and medical device manufacturers."
The site, Harding adds, is: "Much more about promoting sterile barriers and their benefits, explaining their purpose and benefits to the various audiences, as well as technical and regulatory information."
SBA member companies include the likes of Ahlstrom, Amcor, Arjowiggins, BillerudKörsnas, Dupont, Mondi, Oliver-Tolas, Sealed Air and Wipak.
