Starpacks to partner Converting Today

23 August 2006

The Starpack Industry Awards 2007, the UK’s most prestigious packaging awards programme, is to be run in partnership with the Wilmington Group, publisher of Converting Today. Starpack organizer The IOP: The Packaging Society aims to expand the influence of the awards to all parts of the supply chain.

Gordon Stewart, head of IOP: The Packaging Society, says: “It is essential that the UK’s foremost packaging awards programme mirrors the many changes taking place in consumer, retailing and branded goods markets, and the Wilmington Group brings extra impetus to the awards programme across a range of end user and technical sectors of industry. The breadth of coverage offered by Wilmington’s publishing portfolio and the positioning of the Starpack Awards alongside Total Processing & Packaging Exhibition 2007, plus the introduction of a number of new award categories, ensures that we will remain the most relevant packaging competition in the UK.”

The deal includes media support from Wilmington’s magazine portfolio that, in addition to Converting Today, features Packaging Today, RFID Solutions, Manufacturing Chemist, Soap, Perfumery and Cosmetics, European Cosmetics Market, and Blueprint Magazine.

“Awards programmes must never stand still but grow to encompass all the challenges facing the packaging supply chain,” explains Gordon Stewart, who also heads up PIACB, the UK’s only recognized awarding body for qualifications in the packaging industry. “We recognize that to do this we must not only take notice of all the markets our great industry serves, but must also not ignore any of the vital material sectors that bring so much choice to packaging users.”

The 2007 Awards’ presentations will be held alongside Total Processing & Packaging Exhibition 2007, May 15-18, Birmingham NEC. The awards ceremonies, dinner and cabaret will be held on May 15, 2007 at the National Motorcycle Museum, situated close to the Birmingham NEC.

The Starpack programme also encompass Student and Schools Awards. Entry forms and details of the Starpack Industry Awards 2007 will be available in November, 2006; entry forms for Student Starpack 2007 and Student Starpack for Schools are available now.
