A special Award for Services to the Packaging Industry was made to former Converting Today editor Pauline Covell in the in the Starpack 2007 Awards. Pauline has been an outstanding champion of the converting and packaging industries for over 30 years, applying her many abilities and unflagging enthusiasm to a number of roles, always working to see that “our” industry is represented fairly, fully and faithfully.
Innovative pharmaceutical packaging featured prominently in the main awards, with the Nicotinell L-Pack from Novartis Consumer Health SA taking the Gold Star in both the Pro Carton Award for Best in Creative Cartonboard Packaging and Best Pharmaceutical Pack. The novel design successfully combines primary and secondary packaging - a traditional carton material with a traditional blister into a single entity to give protection, communication and dynamic functions.
Best Printed Pack Gold award went to Assaye Packaging, for what was judged “a superbly printed example of flexible packaging with smooth and clean vignettes achieved on a wide web gravure press”. The Brummel & Peacock Complete Dog Food packs were printed on a Cerutti press in eight colours, including a silver vignette from bottom to top of the bag, on a 12 micron PET/160 micron PE laminate, reverse printed on the PET layer.
