Starpack Awards 2008

9 November 2007

Design and marketing performance across branded goods and retail markets are among the key attributes asked of entries to the rejuvenated Starpack Industry Awards 2008, organized by IOP: The Packaging Society in partnership with our sister magazine Packaging Today. Placing additional emphasis on consumer facing issues across the complete packaging community, the awards will also address the key issue of environmental sustainability.

The awards will focus on packs delivering significant improvements across design and marketing, environmental performance, and technical developments.

“Winning a Starpack Award should be the aspiration of everyone involved in the packaging supply chain and giving the awards both a consumer and market facing focus should ensure that they are valued not just by packaging businesses but by their customers – the brand owners and retailers,” says Steve Kelsey, chair of the judging panel, and managing director of design consultancy PI3.

“The real achievement will be to make a Starpack Gold Star a ‘must win’ for brand owners and retailers,” he states. “Ultimately Starpack Award winners should provide a benchmark by which the whole industry can be judged.”

Mark Barthel, special adviser, for platinum sponsor WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) adds: “Environmental performance and sustainability are critical to the future of brands and retailers. Consumers have never been keener to see manufacturers and retailers deliver on their corporate responsibilities, and in coming years this will be a key criteria by which business success is judged.

“Starpack 2008 provides an ideal platform for stakeholders throughout the supply chain to share best practice and create visions for the future of sustainable packaging.”

The awards are sponsored by WRAP Waste & Resources Action Programme, Alcan Packaging, DHL Exel Supply Chain, and are supported by the British Brands Group.

Closing date for entries is January 31, 2008, and the awards ceremony will take place on May 22, at the Café Royal, in London.
