There are 352 entries for the judges to consider for the Starpack Industry Awards 2007, the UK’s most prestigious packaging competition, which is organized by IOP: The Packaging Society. The awards programme aims to foster co-operation across the packaging supply chain, and the entry figures show that this is succeeding. Proof that the message has been taken on board by the supply chain comes with the 41 entries received from brand owners - a sure sign that the role packaging plays in society is being understood. Another measure of the success is the 73 entries received for the Best Consumer Pack - Food and Drink.
For this year’s awards, IOP: The Packaging Society has placed additional emphasis on environmental criteria across the 18 categories. And the result is an increasing number of entries focusing on sustainable packaging developments including compostable and biodegradable materials; recyclability; re-use; lightweighting; and new food grade recyclable resins.
The Starpack Industry Awards 2007 ceremony, gala dinner and cabaret will be held at the same time as the Total Processing & Packaging Exhibition, the UK’s largest packaging event, (May 15-18, Birmingham NEC). The Awards will be held at the National Motorcycle Museum on the evening of May 15 and bookings are now being taken. To reserve a place contact Chris Edwards at: cedwards@wilmington.co.uk
