Starna UV varnishes for digital print

19 January 2007

Coating technology specialist Starna Industries has introduced a range of three UV varnishes “designed for the digital age”.

CureTec UV 100 is a high gloss, product resistant UV varnish for overprinting digital images. Used in conjunction with Starna’s Curecoat 1, 2 and XP water based primer coatings, it is said to ensure optimum adhesion of digital inks to the substrate surface. Characteristics stated include low odour, excellent non yellowing properties and suitability for food packaging applications. Good rub resistance is also promised, and the varnish can be applied by flexo, roll or rod coater, and gravure. A duct version is also available.

CureTec UV 200 provides the same performance features and benefits as CureTec UV 100 while providing a matt finish.

The new range is completed by CureTec UV 300 varnish, which is designed to ensure that hot stamping foils, thermal ribbon and inkjet coding adheres to the printed product, while improving product resistance and adding value. Starna says it provides good adhesion for digital inks and is also ideal for flexo and gravure print systems.

In addition, CureTec UV 300 is said to be foil blockable, low odour and with good non yellowing properties – and, in common with UV 100 and UV 200, easy to wash up with standard UV wash up products.
