Spotting splices

1 February 2005

Suzhou RKB Opto-Electronics Machine Vision Co's splice detectors reveal abrupt changes in web material thickness due to splices, tear-outs, or web breaks in high speed conversion processes. Available in three models, these self calibrating units monitor single to multiple webs and are said to be unaffected by material basis weight changes, colour or process speed. Outputs provided can be interfaced to control production equipment such as sheeter gates, coating head applicators, supercalenders, presses, laminators, treaters, as well as automatic marking systems.

The splice detectors are designed for edge of web or centre of web mounting, depending on customer needs, and can be positioned anywhere along the production line. They can also easily be repositioned to accommodate changes in web width in support of just in time, short run, or high product mix conditions, the company states.
