Alpha Converting exhibited its Alphatwin twin-shaft slitter rewinder at drupa 2008. The machine is configured for high speed winding with rapid job change and features a patented automatic knife setting system that will reposition both sets of knives in 75 sec – dramatically improving machine efficiency, says Alpha. The slitting system can easily be switched between shear and razor slitting for different products.
Integrated with the automatic knife setting is rewind core laser positioning. Simon King, the company’s managing director, explains: “A laser line guides the operator for setting the rewind cores and the system receives the required positions from the knife setting, so that there is no set-up time when changing slitting patterns and the cores are positioned right first time”.
The Alphatwin is fitted with a separate shaftless unwind with floor pick-up and splice table. Top speed is 600 m/min and roll unloading can be by either a trolley or other systems, as required.
