Speciality sales boost Ahlstrom

25 September 2004

Ahlstrom's LabelPack division, one of the world's largest suppliers of release base papers, reports a 33 per cent increase of sales in speciality, tape and industrial segments in 2004.

Although the self adhesive labelstock business is by far the biggest user of release liners, the company has selected speciality market segments as an equally important pillar of its strategy. To satisfy the extremely high quality standards and customized service requirements of its self adhesive tape and other speciality businesses, Ahlstrom turned its French plant at LaGère into the cornerstone line dedicated to these segments.

The plant is now said to represent now the single biggest operation in the world dedicated to this market segment. Today a major share of its output is already represented by Silca Industrial, a range of high performance both side siliconizable glassines, available in various shades and substances up to 130g/m2.

The increase in Ahlstrom sales in this segment is said to be a direct consequence of this strategy.

Fabrizio Gaiero, general manager, release liners, states: "We are finalizing investment plans to increase the capacity of our release liner plants. Over the next two years these actions will not only reinforce our ability to follow the growth of labelstock producers, they will also strengthen our focus on those industrial and speciality businesses where we can be a global leader".
