Ultimate Packaging, of Grimsby, UK, has installed a Soma Flex Imperia 10-colour flexo press. The first SomaFlex Imperia in the UK, it was supplied through Engelmann & Buckham, agent for Czech Republic based Soma Engineering
The 1,270mm wide CI press prints on a wide variety of films including LDPE, HD OPP, paper and laminates at speeds up to 450m/min. It is equipped with a flying sleeve system to permit changes and new jobs to be prepared during press operation.
The installation will increase Ultimate Packaging’s annual print capacity by 5-6 million linear metres and represents a 20% increase over the production capability of its existing 8-colour flexo presses. Ten new jobs have been created to cover the anticipated 24-hour, seven days a week production shifts.
Sales and marketing director Chris Tonge says: “The unique features of the machine are extensive. Its ability to deliver the highest quality flexographic print at high speeds and a flying sleeve design allowing spare print stations to be prepared while already running, are just two examples of its huge benefits.”
