Solventless adhesive offers fast cure

18 June 2008

In the US, Rohm and Haas recently teamed up with coating and laminating equipment manufacturer Nordmeccanica to prove that its new Mor-Free L75-164 fast cure solventless adhesive can easily achieve line speeds of 1,200 ft/min for difficult polyester-to-polyester laminations.

Live demonstrations held at Nordmeccanica’s North America facilities are said to have left no doubt among many invited packaging converters that this solventless adhesive, coupled with Nordmeccanica’s latest Super Simplex laminator, “provides the exacting performance and stringent tension levels to laminate miles of film successfully”.

Mor-Free L75-164 is said to provide bonds up to 200 g within two hours, to cure within four hours to allow same shift slitting to proceed, and to cure completely in just three days - to allow fill operations more quickly instead of the typical two to three weeks’ storage before use.

In trials with polyester-to-polyester lamination, the adhesives exhibited no misting or smearing of inks on finished films, it is claimed.

During the demonstration with Nordmeccanica, Rohm and Haas also highlighted its Mor-Free 225 high performance solventless adhesive for retort applications.
