Softer tissue

9 January 2004

The LPC Group has purchased a third Crescent Former tissue machine from Andritz for its Swedish soft tissue production facility. The £15M PM3 machine will feature the same TissueFlex shoe press technology that LPC's UK facility has used for over two years to produce tissue with "remarkable" softness and bulk. This is because Tissueflex requires only 50 per cent of the nip pressure of a conventional press.

The Andritz machine can manufacture a large number of customized tissue grades "to the highest quality and performance requirements". Start-up is due to begin next autumn, when it will be capable of producing 45,000t of tissue/year.
