MeadWestvaco has improved the surface characteristics of its Kraftpak unbleached folding cartonboard, giving it a significantly smoother printing surface said to improve graphic reproduction and reduce dusting.
With its tighter printing surface and improved smoothness, enhanced Kraftpak is now said to deliver superior graphics in applications ranging from shirt boxes and luxury goods packaging to soap cartons and beverage carriers. It also remains FDA compliant, suitable for direct contact with shelf stable foods and frozen items, where its wet strength and climatic endurance deliver added product protection throughout the distribution channel, the company states.
The new surface is also said to deliver better on-press performance. In addition to better ink hold-out, it now minimizes dusting, a frequent concern with low density boards. It is also said to require fewer wash-ups, reducing machine downtime, improving operational efficiency and, ultimately, increasing profitability.
As well as embossing, foil stamping, scoring and perforating, the new board can be laminated or over-wrapped with film, foil or printed sheets for a sleek, high-end look and feel. MeadWestvaco also says that it provides more cartons per tonne than many competitive products - and produces less waste.
