Smith Anderson to re-locate

10 November 2011

Leading UK paper bag manufacturer Smith Anderson has purchased the Rosslyn Commerce Park in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. The new site offers a state-of-the-art, single storey production facility covering more than 120,000ft² and offers “superb logistical solutions to support its international trade”.

Smith Anderson employs just under 200 staff at its present site in Falkland and sees the move as a significant step towards safeguarding the longer term future of the privately owned company, established more than 150 years ago. It produces 50 million paper bags/week and this investment will enable it to expand both production capacity and, in time, the workforce.

Chief executive Michael Longstaffe comments: “This is a very bold step to take during such challenging times, but we are extremely confident that this was an opportunity not to be missed. An energetic and loyal workforce is our greatest asset and they will function far more efficiently within a single storey production hall with brand new facilities. Having just completed our financial year, we are confident that turnover will exceed £20 million for the first time.”

Relocation to the new site will be staged to ensure continuity of supply to the company’s customers.
